Started From The Bottom, Now We’re Here

These days, the idea of graduation is looming over my head- will I go back to school? Will I do another internship? Am I ready for a real job? Should I take a graduation trip? Gathering from June’s first year in the real world, it doesn’t sound scary, in fact, it sounds informative and exciting. But am I ready to reflect on life lessons I’ve learnt in architecture school? Are my days of an intern numbered?

So I’m not ready to reflect on life lessons from architecture but it is my last co-op work term and here 5 things I’ve learn from each of my experiences.

Tapping into Revit: First Impressions

While still in school, I heard multiple times that Revit is a must-learn software, an advanced building information modelling (BIM) application often used in highly technical architecture firms. It’s still January, and for those of us who are keeping with their resolutions- congratulations! This is the best part of a new year, where you can still feel ambitious about all the things you wanted to do, to go, to eat and see! For me, every time I seem to have time to do the things I’ve been meaning to do, something else comes up. I’m sure everyone else must feel this way too but it’s no excuse to forget! Every year is a chance to better ourselves whether it’s to encourage ourselves to try or learn something new. For 2017, this year’s theme will be to be more daring.

Creation is a Patient Search

The title of a book written by Le Corbusier in 1960’s is my motto this year: creation is a patient search. Often, as designers, we seek for the sources of inspiration in order to create and bring design to life, whether that’s a product, sculpture, building, or simply a painting. It would be magical to create a masterpiece in a snap, but after all, it’s about 1% of inspiration and 99% of perspiration.
