February OOTD’s – Simplicity in a loud world

I’ve come to appreciate the effortless look in fashion. Sometimes, I find myself trying to look as if I’m not trying. It sounds totally ironic now that I’m putting it in writing! In a way, it’s empowering to look as if I’ve literally thrown on the first clean clothes I saw. It’s sort of rebelling against the idea that women must dress up to catch attention. What if you don’t want the outfit to wear you?

February’s been a quiet month for me. My job has been stuck in limbo. I still see my friends, but I haven’t been packing my social calendar to the brim. I still dress to look put together, but I haven’t gone all out glam.

Anyways, here are my simplistic, most worn OOTD’s of this month.

Casual day

I got this sweater from Winner’s around the end of last month and it has become one of my most-worns. I brought it with me when I went to Cuba, and wore it for a gig over the long weekend. This exact outfit is what I wore for a photoshoot in the snow too. It’s always nice to find a piece that’s a little quirky but also easy to style.

I like the silhouette of something cropped with something high-waisted. It really elongates the legs. Plus, cropped tops and sweaters are usually loose fitting, which means more comfort!

The large earring here is the only one I actually wear. I’ve collected a handful of statement earrings over the years, but I somehow exclusively wear studs.

Effortless night

This velvet top was $20 from a Banana Republic clearance rack. It’s a great place to deal-hunt for good quality clothes. I always found their cuts to be on the boxier side though.

Luxe fabrics like satin and velvet can really help make an outfit look more expensive than it is. When I want to look like I put effort into an outfit without looking like I tried, I usually choose a piece that’s more “special” and pair it simpler, comfortable things. I find myself reaching for this top when I’m going out for the evening but don’t want to be in full glam. I’ve worn it with dark wash jeans and with a skater skirt.

Ever since I got my collarbone tattoo, I found that it clashes with mid-length necklaces. So I started exclusively wearing pendants and chokers. Meanwhile all my pre-loved mid length necklaces are sitting around neglected.

Why dress up at all?

Some days I simply don’t need to leave the house. One of my favorite things to wear at home is this blue oversize hoodie that used to be my dad’s. When I’m at home, I always wear an oversize sweater with an old t-shirt underneath and sweatpants. Unicorn slippers have become something I can’t live without!

Once spring comes and temperature rises, I’m going to switch out sweats for leggings. Wearing all loose clothes all the time makes me feel like a sack. Does anyone else feel this way too or is this another one of my quirks?
