My Experience in Spending Money Wisely

People all love cheap items. But is it worth to buy cheap items?

Beauty brands keep releasing new items. I want to have all of them. Seems like everyone is using it, should I also buy it?

The fast fashion is cheap and trendy. I can not stop myself from buying them. Is it strange?

Consumerism is keeping brainwashing us. They collaborate with the bloggers, YouTubers to encourage you to buy the products. It is important to spend money instead of buying cheap stuff.

There are 300 pieces of clothes in the closet, 260 of which are not worn very much. Then I see a shirt that costs $150 and it is too expensive. I think I can use money wisely by buying a shirt that costs $100. In this way, I feel that I have saved $50. Then the $100 shirt is buried with 260 pieces of clothes that I don’t wear. It’s not using money wisely, it’s buying junk.

A mansion jar is $2. I can also use the empty jam jar for storage so I do not need to buy a new mansion jar. I spent $15 buying facial cleanser in the drug mart instead of buying $30+ cleansers in the big mall. I wanted to clean my face and I received the same result. This is spending money wisely.

When we buy cheaper items, the result would reduce the sense of using and visual experience. What I was hoping is that we can still keep the sense of using and visual experience, but we know what result we want. For example, I buy flowers is for decorating the room. This is what flower used for. I buy this lipstick because the case looks good. But you already have many lipsticks, and lipstick is for makeup not for looking good. Do not mess up the usage of the products. Do not give our own excuse for buying.

For me, I don’t buy a lot of clothes, I do not buy the clothes my friends say looks good on me but not my style. I don’t dye my hair or instead of going to the hair salon, I would do it myself. I don’t do my nail. I cook what I want to eat instead of going to a restaurant. These are my own rational choice, not because of the poor economic conditions make me have to do it.

Not being dictated by other people’s words, not being brainwashed by consumerism, consuming rationally gives me more freedom in spending money and my own life.

  1. Everything you said is so true!
As a lover of nice packaging, I find myself draw to things just for the sake of it.
Consumerism has gotten to the point where we can’t live with or without it. Which is why I’ve been really focusing on quality and longevity of my purchases. Here’s to being adultier adults!
