Peace of wardrobe, peace of mind

Do clothes get stressful sometimes?

De-clutter

If you’re fashion savvy and getting overwhelmed by your wardrobe, you need an overhaul. Make a pot of coffee, tie up your hair, and put on some music. It’s time for a massive clean up.

You have to be ruthless here. If you’re just not wearing something, it has to go. Not everything has to do into a donation bin right away. If you’re not wearing something often, but can’t bear to let it go, put it in a “revisit” bin. You never know when it’ll come in handy.

I do a mass de-clutter of my wardrobe roughly once every year. It is time consuming, but I always have a good idea of what I’m reaching for and what I’m not. My makeup table on the other hand….needs a de-clutter every few months.

Lazy upkeep

I’m a shameless lazy fashion girl. If there’s a shortcut, I’ll take it. I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve ironed my clothes. Who else absolutely detests doing laundry?

Whenever I buy new clothes, I consider the minimum effort needed to upkeep them. I love delicate fabrics and details like sequins, but they are harder to maintain. Most of my more delicate clothes can be thrown in the washing machine using a gentle cycle. Once in a blue moon, I’d hand wash something. No dry cleaning for me!

If you’re somebody who finds laundry relaxing, you have my amazement.

Maximize your choices

I’m sure we all get stumped with the “I have nothing to wear!” feeling. If you feel uninspired and stuck with your wardrobe, expanding on bottoms can open up a lot more options. Instead of switching around tops, consider what sort of pants/skirts/jeans/tights you have. Do you have a good variety of styles and colours to choose from?

If you like throwing on a dress, don’t just wear the same plain black tights. You can switch it up a bit with black tights of different patterns and knits. Maybe some of your dresses also pair well with charcoal or burgundy tights.

Find your signature

If you know what sort of pieces you love wearing, shopping and getting dressed becomes so much easier. Have a few “signature” pieces and keep them as staples in your wardrobe. You can build a collection of these staple pieces and use them as a starting point for any outfit.

One of my signature pieces is the ankle boot. Over the years, I’ve had ankle boots in black, brown, and taupe. I’ve had ankle boots with high heels, mid heels, and low heels. I’ve had them in classic styles and moto-inspired styles. I have an ankle boot that can go with just about any outfit.

Another one of my signatures is t-shirts with sassy graphics. They’re usually the starting point for my casual outfits. I also have a lot of fun collecting them!
