Five things I do for fun

Daily writing prompt
List five things you do for fun.

I should call my five things five rituals. I have been doing them for a long time…but I still find them fun even after years of doing these rituals.

Here goes…

  1. Weekend coffee chat at a local coffee shop with my favourite people, mom and sister: talking(or complaining) about what the past work days have been and listening to their days is definitely a fun activity. The ritual started a few years ago, one summer when we decided to come up with “something to look forward to” after a strenuous morning run at the local running track. With the cold, minus weather in Toronto, the running ritual has slowly disappeared, but spending time at the coffee shop and enjoying the conversations continues.
  2. Morning page writing: Writing daily notes about my thoughts, events, feelings, events, etc., gives me the clarity I did not realize I would have. A friend’s suggestion about writing my thoughts to find answers/solutions to what I am dealing with helped organize my jumbled thoughts and sometimes feelings. After keeping up with this ritual for the last 5(or so years), I think of my notebook as a friend with whom I can just ask questions and get feedback.
  3. Another favourite thing: COFFEE, COFFEE, COFFEE! I love everything about it: smell, taste, and, most importantly, it signals that I am about to have an enjoyable moment for a short period before my not-so-lovely work time starts!
  4. Walking while listening to favourite podcasts: I admit I haven’t been doing this for a while, precisely a month now, with the recent cold weather. Summer afternoons, going out for a walk with just my phone and headphones and listening to podcasts after finishing work always lift me up. On the way back, adding an ice cream cone with the podcast listening is the ultimate “favourite” thing I never get tired of.
  5. Facetime calls with old friends: This is another activity I don’t often do…but it gives me the warm and fuzzy feelings I cherish every time I do. Most close friends live in different countries, so organizing the call is work. Still, when I “meet” them on the screen, it is just like the old times when we were carefree, with no wrinkle or gray hair reminding us of our youth.

  1. Hi Onah,

How are you? Hope you are keeping well.

I posted a comment in the blog. It appears as Anonymous. I thought it would pick my name.

I enjoy reading your blogs. We met over Zoom (may be Google Meet) once.

Hi Onah, I need to make a list. Can I ask what’s your favourite coffee is? I have difficulty to find one I like.

    Best regards,

    1. Thanks Vali for reading my posts. Although I love my coffee rituals, I can’t say I am coffee connoisseur. Both Tim Hortons coffee with 2-1/2 milk or Starbucks latte works for me😀. You may have more discerning coffee taste!
