Energy always comes to me after rather than before.
Like the time after finishing the difficult morning run or submitting the project proposal after working on it for months end, these are the times I feel the energy, not before starting the run or at the first project meeting time for the project proposal.
The illusive, energetic feeling of “feels great! I can tackle anything, bring it on” sensation always comes after and never before.
I recently organized desk drawers that have collected various things over the years. Instead of using the drawers to look for something, I developed the habit of just buying things, knowing that I would not be able to find stuff in unbelievably messy drawers.

However, I spent half a day one weekend going through the drawers. First, I had to push through the initial energy-draining thoughts of “it would take forever” or “why bother…it is going to be messy again.”
Not only did the work not take “forever,” but the feelings I got after completing the work were pure energy! I was ready to tackle another, much bigger project I had been thinking about over the years: garage organization…ok, maybe next year 🙂
Tackling challenging but worthwhile goals always gives me energy afterward, even though I do not always start with the same vigour.
