Fall activities for peace and bonding

There’s no better season than fall to begin reflecting on the year. It’s a good time to start asking yourself who has really been there for you. It’s a good time to also look deep within yourself and begin unrooting any destructive thoughts that have been festering over the year. This week, I’ll be sharing some simple activities that have been helping me feel at peace and also bond with loved ones.

Friends bonding time:

Have a chill hangout and make mulled wine

Mulled wine is one of my favorite drinks for the fall and winter. There are pre-made ones that you just need to heat up, but spicing it yourself is so much better. It’s great to make with a small group of friends because nobody can drink a whole bottle by themselves (respect to you if you can). Go ahead and have a board game day or a TV marathon day while making mulled wine!

Bond over a creepy movie

Nothing brings people together like shared fear! I do enjoy horror movies, but only if I’m watching with another person. If I watched one alone, I’m sure I’d drive myself up a wall.

The best type of horror movies are the ones that keep you thinking. A good friend of mine came over for dinner then other day and we ended up watching Hereditary. We had a good time talking about the themes and philosophy of the movie.

Make a list of people to catch up with

I’m sure we’ve all made new years resolutions to meet new people or be better at keeping in touch. But life often gets in the way. If you’ve made it a goal to catch up with old friends, this is a good time to reflect on it. Now that summer vacation season is over and winter getaways haven’t started yet, there’s no better time to be available for people you’ve been wanting to see.

Ask yourself if you have any close friends you don’t feel like you’ve spent enough time with. Or if there’s anyone you haven’t seen in months.

Me-time activities:

Bake a large batch of desserts to share

Baking is one of my favorite de-stressing activities. It’s very therapeutic to do every step with patience and care. And eventually, you’re rewarded with delicious treats!

I only bake a handful of times a year (less often than I’d like), but whenever I do bake, I make sure there’s enough to share. I love baking sugar cookies because there are so many ways you can add your own twist to the recipe.

Literally walk while sipping a hot beverage

I’ve saved the best for last!

I feel like it’s so ingrained in our culture to always be hustling. We’re so used to grabbing our coffee and rushing to the next destination.

The next time you’re grabbing a coffee before work or out doing errands, try to slow down. Breathe and take in your surroundings. Try to enjoy your drink rather than think of it as source of caffeine. Don’t think about what else you need to do that day. Just let your mind be present in the moment.
