The Unbearable Lightness of Being

Because of the recent events, when I saw the CAFUBE Funeral Home by LOKOMOTIV.archs office, it took more time for me to think about what the architect wants to say to the deceased and how visitors would see from this building.

In the search for the intrinsic beauty of the architectural object, connubial of pure and functional, the containing silence, the ephemeral that comes to life, the pain and calm that embrace this building in one, highlight the contrast with an architecture monumental whose massive character, heaviness, austerity, balance, and functional coherence are the masters. The joint and certainty that guides the whirlwind of ideas that enveloped this project was its functional coherence, which is accompanied by the complicit and creative light of a new balance.

The white color would certainly remind the purity of life. White is also the color of the paper, which is light and unbearable, as fragile as life. The external is wrapped by a candid origami of slabs that offers the light and suspended appearance. The brown color of the interior finish also gives me the idea that we are all going back to earth in the end. The building seems does not have a rooftop which offers a sense of lightness too.

[The] diaphanous and clean skin, chiseled in a linear and rhythmic way by triangulations and pure geometric shapes, comes to life and interrogates the observer through the light, which creeps into the slits and creates shadows that change over time.

White is also the color can reflect the light most easily, so no doubt that architect would offer the idea of “sundial”, that use the pure geometric shapes to refers to the times of man and life, of the experiences that follow one another in a day and that are reborn at sunrise.

The entries of the building, like the corner of the stage curtain being lifted to facilitate the protagonist’s quiet walk-off, just like what the deceased would experience in this building. Even though the triangle shape and shape corners offers me a sense of aggression, it also showcases the feeling of being independent and strong.

Here are some of my opinions toward this building. I came up with this post randomly as I saw this building. I thought it would be interesting to talk about it.
