Timelessly trendy clothing combinations

Have you ever had an outfit you wore so often that it would be your default look if life were a cartoon? There’s just something about that certain clothing combination that draws you in. You love wearing it and love seeing it on someone else. This week, I’ll be sharing quite a few combinations I never tire of. Potential fashion inspo ahead!

Black moto jacket with a filmy dress

This is an all time favorite outfit of mine. I’m all about juxtaposition and duality. So this combination of something “tough” and something “soft” really gets me. It’s also very easy to throw on in the morning!

I have a pink frilly dress that I love to wear with a studded moto jacket. It would be my default casual outfit if my life were a cartoon.

I have an undying love for moto jackets! It’s easy to forget that they come in more colours than black and white. Normally, I’m not a big fan of wearing colours that are too close in tone. But somehow, pale pink really works with pale blue.

It doesn’t even have to be a jacket with jeans. You could match a pink sweater with a blue scarf, a blue dress with a pink handbag, a dress with pink and blue print, and so on. I always loved seeing these two pastel colours worn together.

Is it casual Friday yet? This is a great outfit for a relaxed work day or a more laid-back interview. When I was working at Banana Republic (back in the innocent early University days), this was a common look for the mannequins and hanger displays.

Once the outfit is dressed up with heels and accessories, it’s sophisticated yet trendy. This would be my default somewhat-formal outfit in the cartoon of life.

Culottes, casual top, and flat shoes

Culottes + mules.

I have instant respect for anyone who knows how to style culottes. I’m so used to styling oversize tops with fitted bottoms that the idea of styling looser bottoms is absolutely foreign. I have the same issue with maxi skirts. Nevertheless, I love seeing a casual culottes outfit on other people. I bet they have bigger pockets than skinny jeans…

Don’t be afraid of wearing culottes even if you’re petite! One of my coworkers is very petite, yet she really makes them work.

Over the knee and oversize

I’ve never really liked over the knee boots with jeans. Somehow, it looks very constricted and “off” to me. Whenever I wear over the knee boots, it’s always on bare legs. I especially like juxtaposing the streamlined legs with a slouchy top.

You can get the same look by wearing over the knee socks with ankle boots. If you’re a tall gal, be verry wary of ordering anything over the knee from Asia. Asian online stores tend to be cheaper, but they’ll often come out short. Surprisingly, a lot of common fast-fashion retailers (Ardene’s, H&M, Forever 21, Aldo) make actual over the knee.

  1. great post! a leather jacket with a summer dress is one of my favourite outfits ever, especially because I can throw on some heels or slip on some white sneakers and the outfit still looks good! x

    1. It’s been like three different seasons in one day! Leather jackets are a great layering piece too. I’d have a whole closet of them if I could. Thank you for reading!
